Vote On My New Book Cover
My latest novel is almost finished! In the meantime, I have been working on my bookcover design. I can’t decide which one to use. Please tell me which one you like best, if any! Please comment below with the number. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. The number is on the bottom left hand corner of each cover.
By the way, this story has nothing to do with my own, wonderful mother! It’s pure fiction!

#8 is great and should work really well in the thumbnail size

Thanks Julie! Problem is, I like them all. And though they are merely variations on the one theme, I just can’t decide which one to use.

#1 if it is really about a beach holiday,
#5 if it is a nancy drew style mystery
#6 if a grown up mystery thriller
#8 if a horror/dark novel

Personally, I like number 4. The colour scheme/contrast works better. The title and author is easily seen against the backdrop of the woman’s head/shoulder.

No worries. I’ve always been a fan of black and white photography.

The negative reversal image of the woman in number 6 conveys a thriller above the other seven. Number 8 was a close runner up, but it was just a little more difficult to read the text over the bright red artwork.

Question: Is this book about the day, or is it about the mother’s act? All variations of the title suggest to me that you need to re-work the wording, not what typeface to use. “The day” is a clarification you can put in your first paragraph, but for the cover leave it off. Maybe try something like..
‘Who Murdered Mother? She did.’ …
Or… ‘My Mother’s Murderer? Herself.’ …
Or… ‘Mother’s Killer? Mother.’
Then, intro : ‘It was a day like any other: the kid next door revving up his motorcycle at six a.m. and leaving for work in a shattering roar; me walking our constipated old dog round and round the back yard; Mom washing last night’s supper dishes and staring mindlessly out the kitchen window; me staring at the blank page rolled into my old Remington; and that’s just the morning.
A clue I should have read was Mom staring out the window long after there were no more dishes to wash and the water was cold and her hands were still immersed in it. That kinda made it a new day.’
Sometimes stepping outside the familiar you’ve been focused on and reconsidering the parts allows the murk to settle and the water to clear.
Thanks for listening. I think in writing to you I’ve just written myself out of a little corner I was in. Funny how this tool works. Good luck with yours.

Hi Gary, thanks for your feedback. I am already settled on the title. It is about the ‘day’ and then the discovery of why she did it, going back in time. It’s a suspense, thriller. Please enlighten me about your little corner? And, you didn’t tell me which cover you liked best? Would you like a copy of the book – eBook?
cheers
