The process of self-publishing your own book is a simple one.

The following is a simple step-by-step outline of my self- publishing process.

Step 1 – Editing

Your book should be properly edited before submitting it for printing. Many authors choose to have a friend or family member who is qualified do the book editing. A second option is to hire a student from a local community college or university to do the editing. A third option is to hire a professional editor. Finite Publishing has a professional editing service if you require it.

An important rule in editing is as the author of the book, you should never do the final edit. If there are mistakes, you probably won’t catch all your own mistakes, no matter how many times you proofread your manuscript.

Step 2 – Choose a Publishing Package to suit your requirements and budget

Please read through my Publishing Packages options. I have 10 options tailored made to suit all requirements and budgets. If you would like to mix and match our options, please choose by number on the Packages page of what you would like me to do for you, and I will give you a price estimate via email. Once you have decided which publishing route you wish to undertake, upon acceptance of my written estimate, I require payment in full to begin work on your publishing project. I also have payment plans to suit your needs.

Step 3 – Sending Your Book Files to us

Then the second step of the self-publishing process is to send your book file. I accept files in a wide variety of formats (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, PDF, InDesign etc.). You can submit your file via email:

publishing@aishahmacgill.com

or via dropbox, click here to obtain a free dropbox account:

I require images or illustrations are sent separately as high resolution image files. They will be sizeed and formatted appropriately for each book type-style. (If you don’t have copies of any images that are already embedded into a book file, we can use those, but the final quality may be compromised.)

We will also send you a document for you to fill out, telling us your name, address and all your author details we need to get the job done. You will also need to submit:

  • author photo
  • author bio
  • book blurb

If you need assistance with any of these, let me know and I can help you.

I will contact you as soon as we receive your book info and will be in touch with you throughout the publishing process to keep you fully informed of your book’s progress.

Step 4 – Page Layout

First, you need to decide on the size of your book, click here for available size options. I will ensure that text and any images or graphs etc. are properly organized on the pages of your book. This is known as page layout or formatting. A standard page layout is a layout containing no photographs, tables, or bulleted lists. Standard page layout is provided at no additional cost when producing your book with us. We will include up to 20 images with no extra charge. A complex page layout (containing many photographs, tables, graphs, video or bulleted lists) may incur extra charges. A book that is primarily art or photography will need to be quoted on. Please contact me for a quote.

Step 5 – Images, graphs, tables, or video embedded into your books

If you have any images to be included in your books, please send them in as high resolution as possible, 300 dpi being ideal. We will resize them to suit if they have not been already. If you want images, but don’t have any, we can provide legal, good quality images for a small extra fee.

STEP 6 – Custom Cover Design

I will contact you to discuss the details of your book’s cover design. I will work closely with you to create a unique and effective cover design that suits the genre of your book. Who says we don’t judge a book by it’s cover? We most certainly do! If you have illustrations or photographs you would like to include in your book cover design, our specialised book cover designers will incorporate these images into your unique cover design for you.

We strive to only provide unique book covers and cater for all tastes. We can do traditional or cool and funky, retro styles and we endevour to make you stand out in the crowd!

I will submit for your approval 3 different cover designs for you to choose from. Again, I will endevour to either fulfill your brief or let me create something unique for you. You always have control. Once the cover design is decided upon, you move onto step 6.

Step 7 – Reviewing the Proof

Once your book’s page layout and cover design are complete, I will order a print proof of your book and send it to you for your seal of approval. This is when any last minute corrections are made to the book file.

STEP 8 – Your eBooks

Upon approval of the page and cover proof, I go ahead and create the eBook files for the electronic versions of your book. There are three more different file types and each one has different requirements to read properly on the plethora of different reading devices. Your book must look good on a kindle device, an ipad, an iphone or android phone and as a PDF. It must be readable on all the different devices in the marketplace. I personally gurantee your book will read to the highest standard possible on all reading devices.
